About me.

I've been so busy with work. Updates soon.

Come join the party!

If it makes you feel good, then I say do it. I don't know what your waiting for.

Besides the fact that I wanted to change a few fast-food habits, I had a few health issues that changed the direction of my life forever. Realizing that I knew nothing about the food I put in my body for the first 28 years of my life, At 34 I can proudly say I am deliciously conscious. I know more and I am still learning.

Consciousness for me was opening up my eyes to life. I realized that I have control of everything. The food was just part of it. Getting a grip on what I ate and how the food was created was the beginning of a huge snow ball in my life. I also think about the environment; my environment, the people that I have in my life, the way I entertain myself and how I reacted to everything. This journey is huge and I'm enjoying every second of it.

After two years, three names, and many directions, I finally found my place. Delicious Consciousness...my personal attempt to change the world. It's about making the educated decision to choose organic and natural foods that are free of artificial ingredients, haven't been tampered with genetically, and involve good stewardship for our earth's lands and oceans, no exceptions.

Specifically special diets; organic, vegetarian, vegan, sugar free, dairy free, gluten free, raw and all other special diets. I'm not a physician or an expert, I am a label reader. I research and learn about products daily. I am lucky enough to work for Whole Foods Market and have an opportunity on a daily basis to talk with hundreds of customers and random people in the public about food. I get hands on opinions and comments. It's great! I love local products, I have passion for amazing foods, and I try everything I write about.

I can help you learn where to get great food. I spend hours working with some of the most amazing foods in the world, and can't wait to share what I find. I will research and bring you info and keep up with food trends.

Guayakí Yerba Mate On Sale

On Sale at WFM Venice 4 for $7 and if you get 12 you can get an extra 10% case discount .... Mucho Savings!

About Mate: Mate was first consumed by the indigenous Guaraní and also spread by the Tupí people that lived in Southern Brazil. The consumption of mate became widespread with the European colonization and became widespread in the Spanish colony of Paraguay in the late 16th century both among Spanish settlers and indigenous Guaraní, who consumed it before the Spanish arrival. Mate consumption spread in the 17th century to the River Plate and from there to Chile, Bolivia and Peru. This widespread consumption turned it into Paraguay's main commodity above other wares like tobacco, cotton, and beef. Aboriginal labour was used to harvest wild stands. In the mid 17th century Jesuits managed to domesticate the plant and establish plantations in their Indian reductions in the Paraguayan department of Misiones, sparking severe competition with the Paraguayan harvesters of wild strands. After their expulsion in the 1770s, the Jesuit missions - along with the yerba mate plantations - fell into ruins. The industry continued to be of prime importance for the Paraguayan economy after independence Brazil then became the largest producer of mate. In Brazilian and Argentine projects in late 19th and early 20th century the plant was domesticated once again, opening the way for plantation systems. When Brazilian entrepreneurs turned their attention into coffee in the 1930s, Argentina, which had long been the prime consumer, took over as the largest producer, resurrecting the economy of Misiones Province, where the Jesuits had once had most of their plantations. For years the status of largest producer shift between Brazil and Argentina. Now Mate is the new Stimulation and Guayakí is leading the Front. If you haven't yet you should try. Peace and Love

Who's Your MommaCHIA?

What is Mamma Chia?
For health-conscious individuals seeking an extra dose of vitality, Mamma Chia is the undeniable drink of choice. Infused with ancient wisdom and powered by one of the world’s healthiest whole foods, Mamma Chia provides sustained energy to power your soul’s purpose.

Mamma Chia pairs the highest quality organic chia seeds with delicious organic fruit juices and is lightly sweetened with a touch of organic agave nectar. The pleasing appearance of the chia seeds suspended throughout the beverage adds a compelling quality full of heart and brain-healthy omega-3s, powerful antioxidants and dietary fibers, as well as complete protein, calcium and magnesium. Combined, these nutrients create a vital force that delivers the power to live the life you’ve always wanted.

What is the story behind chia?
Chia seeds, an ancient grain, were revered by both the Mayans and Aztecs for their amazing energy and natural healing powers – in fact, “chia” is the Mayan word for “strength.” In pre-Columbian times, chia seeds were a main component of both the Aztec and Mayan diets, and played a prominent role in religious ceremonies. One tablespoon of the seeds was considered capable of sustaining a warrior for 24 hours. Today, chia is the force behind the famous long distance runners, the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyon. The Tarahumara power their extraordinary stamina with chia, as described in the New York Times bestselling book, Born to Run by Christopher McDougall:

“In terms of nutritional content, a tablespoon of chia is like a smoothie made from salmon, spinach, and human growth hormone. As tiny as those seeds are, they’re superpacked with Omega-3s, protein, calcium, iron, zinc, fiber and antioxidants. If you had to pick just one desert-island food, you couldn’t do much better than chia, at least if you were interested in building muscle, lowering cholesterol, and reducing your risk of heart disease; after a few months on the chia diet, you could probably swim home.”

“Chia was once so treasured, the Aztecs used to deliver it to their king in homage. Aztec runners used to chomp chia seeds as they went into battle, and the Hopis fueled themselves on chia during their epic runs from Arizona to the Pacific Ocean.” – Born To Run

Chia seeds come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family that grows in North, Central and South America. Consumed as early as 3,000 B.C., chia seeds were eaten as a grain, mixed with water, ground into flour, mixed into medicines, and pressed for omega-3 oil.

These extraordinary seeds offer a complete nutritional profile of omega-3, balanced dietary fiber, complete protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Unlike flaxseed, they do not need to be ground in order to absorb the nutritional benefits. Chia really is one of the world’s healthiest whole foods!

I love chia and MommaChia makes it easy and good. You should try it at home . It's easy... Or Visit me at WFM Venice. We have Chia!!!

What Is A Super Food?
From Wiki
Superfood is a term sometimes used to describe food with high phytonutrient content that may confer health benefits as a result. For example, blueberries are often considered a superfood (or superfruit) because they contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fiber.
The term is not in common currency amongst dieticians and nutritional scientists, many of whom dispute the claims made that consuming particular foodstuffs can have a health benefit. There is no legal definition of the term and it has been alleged that this has led to it being over-used as a marketing tool.

I'm a huge fan of this. It's a great source of omegas 3 ,B12 Zink and Iron.... just Amazing! I can't wait to try them all.

Today Voskos Greek Yogurt with Ground Flax , Sunflower, Pumpkin & sesame seeds and Goji Berries Yum!

Wish Me Luck!!!

ATL interview in less then 24 hours. I'm getting Extremely Excited. Say a preyer , wish me luck or send good vibes. I need it all, love you!

History On The Sales Floor

I remember visiting my local Mrs's Gooch's as a kid. Carrot Juice and Blue Corn chips ... My favorites! I had no clue what a GMO was or Artificial Anything. I'm glad WFM took Mrs's G's To the next level. Original Private Label history still only in the LA area.

Sandy Gooch, a homemaker and former grade school teacher, became interested in natural foods after suffering severe allergic reactions to antibiotics and chemical additives in food. She joined forces with Dan Volland, who operated three health food stores, to open the first Mrs. Gooch's Natural Foods Market in West Los Angeles in January 1977.

Within a year, the second market opened in Hermosa Beach. Over the next decade, new markets were launched in Northridge, Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Beverly Hills, and Thousand Oaks.

Mrs. Gooch's held its suppliers to rigorous standards: no harmful chemicals or preservatives, no artificial colors or flavorings, and no white flour, refined sugar, alcohol, caffeine or chocolate. With its consumer education programs, the company helped fuel a growing demand for natural foods in southern California.

Whole Foods Market acquired Mrs. Gooch's in 1993.

Avacado Love

I love Avocados with Seasalt , Cracked pepper and lime. Yum!

on the subject of Whole Foods Private Label...

Whole Foods Market Now serving Guacamole. I tried it. It's yummy and Affordable.

Avocados are commercially valuable, and are cultivated in tropical and mediterranean climates throughout the world, producing a green-skinned, pear-shaped fruit that ripens after harvesting. Trees are partially self-pollinating and often are propagated through grafting to maintain a predictable quality and quantity of the fruit.

About 75% of an avocado's calories come from fat, most of which is monounsaturated fat.
Avocados also have 60% more potassium than bananas. They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K.
Avocados have a high fiber content among fruits – including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fiber.
A fatty triol (fatty alcohol) with one double bond, avocadene (16-heptadecene-1,2,4-triol), is found in avocado .

Keeping fingers crossed!!

5 Vegetables You Should Be Eating

5 Vegetables you should be eating

1. Collard greens

Though collards are associated with Southern cooking alongside pork, vegans should be scarfing up collard greens. “Collard greens are a meaningful source of calcium and fiber as well as containing other vitamins and minerals,” says Chef Rabney.

2. Kale

“Kale is also a good source of calcium and fiber. Many people still think of it as a garnish, although with several available varieties it’s starting to gain popularity, especially when made into chips,” explains Chef Rabney, who shares dozens of creative healthy recipes in her new book Delicious for Life: Your Everyday Guide to Making Quick & Healthy Meals.

3. Mustard greens

Mustard greens are another oft overlooked crucifer that has a strong spicy bite. “A small amount of it raw can make a great addition to a salad,” suggests Chef Rabney. If you’re looking for a more subtle flavor, enjoy mustard greens cooked. “As they cook, the spiciness mellows and is especially good when cooked with sautéed onions that are naturally sweet,” the healthy chef adds.

4. Jicama

Jicama, which is not part of the crucifer family, often gets passed by in the produce aisle because of its rather homely appearance. “Jicama is a root vegetable and a great source of fiber. It also provides vitamins and minerals including vitamin C and potassium,” Chef Rabney says. To eat jicama, remove the peel and bite into the white slightly sweet and crunchy flesh. “It’s very popular in Mexico and it is definitely enhanced by a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a pinch of sea salt and even a dash of chili powder,” she adds. Slice jicama and eat it as a low-carb, low-calorie alternative to chips.

5. Sea vegetables

Have you had your fill of seaweed lately? According to Chef Rabney, sea vegetables are loaded with nutrients, including iron, calcium, iodine, zinc, many vitamins, and fiber. “When we think about vegetables, we typically picture a garden but there is a whole other world of vegetables that provide great nutrition, texture and taste,” she explains. “Wakami and nori are probably the most familiar in America as some people eat nori with their sushi and wakami in miso soup in restaurants. Arame seaweed can easily be tossed into a stir fry or pot of grains, kombu can be used when cooking soups and beans and miso soup can be easily made at home using wakame and kombu. Buy a pre-made gamasio which is a blend of seaweed, sesame seeds and sea salt that can be sprinkled on rice or just about anything.”

Blueberry & Kale Blended

Starting my new Vegan Diet Right. I'll get into more details soon about the Vegetarian/Vegan eating Later. This shake Is amazing! Blueberries ,bananas ,Kale coconut water and wheat grass. Yum!

Kale

Kale or borecole is a form of cabbage (Brassica oleracea Acephala Group), green or purple, in which the central leaves do not form a head. It is considered to be closer to wild cabbage than most domesticated forms. The species Brassica oleracea contains a wide array of vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, and brussels sprouts. The cultivar group Acephala also includes spring greens and collard greens, which are extremely similar genetically.

Kale is considered to be the most nutritious vegetable in the world with extremely powerful antioxidant properties; kale is considered to be anti-inflammatory.

Kale is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin, and reasonably rich in calcium. Kale, as with broccoli and other brassicas, contains sulforaphane (particularly when chopped or minced), a chemical believed to have potent anti-cancer properties.[citation needed] Boiling decreases the level of sulforaphane; however, steaming, microwaving, or stir frying do not result in significant loss.Along with other brassica vegetables, kale is also a source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical which boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells.Kale is also a good source of carotenoids.

Blueberries

Blueberries are flowering plants of the genus Vaccinium (a genus which also includes cranberries and bilberries) with dark-blue berries and is a perennial. Species in the section Cyanococcus are the most common fruits sold as "blueberries" and are mainly native to North America. They are usually erect but sometimes prostrate shrubs varying in size from 10 centimeters (3.9 in) to 4 meters (160 in) tall. In commercial blueberry production, smaller species are known as "lowbush blueberries" (synonymous with "wild"), and the larger species are known as "highbush blueberries". The leaves can be either deciduous or evergreen, ovate to lanceolate, The flowers are bell-shaped, white, pale pink or red, sometimes tinged greenish. The fruit is a berry 5–16 millimeters diameter with a flared crown at the end; they are pale greenish at first, then reddish-purple, and finally dark blue when ripe. They have a sweet taste when mature, with variable acidity. Blueberry bushes typically bear fruit in the middle of the growing season: fruiting times are affected by local conditions such as altitude and latitude, so the height of the crop can vary from May to August depending upon these conditions.

Steel Cut Oats

Breakfast Of Champions

Steel-cut oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into only two or three pieces by steel rather than being rolled. They are golden in color and resemble small rice pieces.

Steel-cut oats are also known as coarse-cut oats, pinhead oats, or Irish oats. This form of oats takes longer to prepare than instant or rolled oats due to its minimal processing, typically 15–30 minutes to simmer (much less if pre-soaked). The flavor of the cooked oats is described as being nuttier than other types of oats, and they are also chewier.

Scottish oats or Scottish oatmeal are sometimes confused with steel-cut oats. Scottish oats are steamed steel-cut oats that are then ground by stones into an oat meal.

Vegetarian Rennet

Rennet ( /ˈrɛnɨt/) is a complex of enzymes produced in any mammalian stomach to digest the mother's milk, and is often used in the production of cheese. Rennet contains many enzymes, including a proteolytic enzyme (protease) that coagulates the milk, causing it to separate into solids (curds) and liquid (whey). The active enzyme in rennet is called chymosin or rennin (EC 3.4.23.4) but there are also other important enzymes in it, e.g., pepsin and lipase. There are non-animal sources for rennet that are suitable for vegetarian consumption.

What Are Lentils?
I would be cutting and pasting all night ... This is what Wikipedia says about the subject . Please look up Lentils for more info.

plant likely originated in the Near East and lentils have been part of the human diet since the aceramic (non-pottery producing) Neolithic times.

Lentils contain high levels of proteins, including the essential amino acids isoleucine and lysine, and are an essential source of inexpensive protein in many parts of the world for those who adhere to a vegetarian diet.Lentils are deficient in two essential amino acids, methionine and cysteine. However, sprouted lentils contain sufficient levels of all essential amino acids, including methionine and cysteine.not bad in moderation.

I first discovered Baked Lentil Chips in 09 in Omaha Nebraska stoping at a WFM on my way returning to Denver from Iowa ... As soon as I got to Denver I found them in almost every WFM. The high Dollar price point isn't a good enough reason to not give them a try.Amazing Flavor inventive idea as well as quality its worth the $5 a bag. I pair it up with a plain Hummus and it's more then a snack .... It's a Meal on the Go. Real Food Fast! Returning to the idea of my blog . Fast Food Or Food on the go coming from sources with integrity . This product is Amazing.
Sad to say that now I'm living in Hollywood and the WFM in my area aren't consistent with caring them as well as my Store in Venice Beach...my new goal is to get them on the shelf in my Store and start a trend. After looking at Mediterranean Snack Foods Web Page I discovered that this great company is doing a lot more then Lentil Chips. I'm now on a mission to try them all. For now look for these at WFM on Fairfax and 3rd 3.99 price point less then CO and now Way Way worth it. Soon my store Whole Foods Market Venice Beach Store will have them ...Let's get them in every WFM location. My Favorite is Cucumber and Dill and I'm known to eat a whole bag Crumbs and All.

Check out mediterraneansnackfoods.com

I'll keep you posted on my findings from this company.

I cut and pasted this from the WEB and it sums it up.

Party Organically

Colorado Local Wild Thyme Naturals "Party Organically" Vegan Party Dips

I was lucky enough to receive a sample of a few new products from Wild Thyme Naturals. I'm a huge fan of Wild Thyme aka Banzo Black Bean & Lime Hummus. Seems like every hummus company is now offering some kind of party dip or spread. I am a huge fan of Blue Moose of Boulder Salsa, not so much a hummus fan and definitely didn't like Blue Moose Party Dips. So I was very excited when the owner of Wild Thymes passed me this Sample of "Party Organically " Party Dips. The first thing I noticed was that they are all vegan. I'm not vegan but I enjoy eating like one. Im a "try-gan" and anything local, organic, and vegan sounds good to me. These dips can be enjoyed by vegans and non vegans alike, and I loved them. I'm sure these party dips will make it into the Whole Foods Market Rocky Mountain Region. I know some readers of my blog also work for WFM, if you can, you should ask for these. I hope to see them in store soon. Till then keep your eyes open and try other great products from Wild Thyme Naturals. The Black Bean & Lime Hummus is Amazing!

Raw Honey

Honey Gardens
Apitherapy Raw Honey
www.honeygardens.com

Northern Raw Honey
Apitherapy raw honey is unheated and unfiltered. It is liquid when it comes out of the honeycomb in the summer and crystallizes into a creamy, spreadable texture in the fall. The color of the honey varies throughout the northern growing season depending on the flowers that the bees are foraging on.

Honey Gardens of Vermont is committed to offering the highest quality Apitherapy raw honey and plant medicine made from truly raw honey, flower pollen, propolis, and medicinal plants.supporting agriculture and encouraging a sustainable relationship with Earth.

I Love this Honey.I try to stay local when it comes to Honey but I gave it a try cos of how this company is giving back to the planet.I was given this as a sample but check out Honey Gardens Apitherapy Raw Honey www.honeygardens.com ...I will let you know when my local WFM carries it. Till then look for other RAW Honey or Local Honey that is the Same as Honey Gardens of Vermont

Why Raw Honey?

It's Good For You!!

Really, it’s been used for centuries for its healing properties, as well as its sweetness. People use it to bake with. It requires you to use less heat. Its tasty flavor is one reason many people prefer it over table sugar. Besides that, honey is much sweeter than regular table sugar and better for you.

It’s best if you buy locally grown organic raw honey whenever you can. Locally grown because it’s produced by bees which are from the environment in which you live. It is always best to grow or consume foods from the area in which you live as they contain the immune stimulating properties needed for your body to adapt to its environment.

Fresh raw honey will also be tastier, and more potent. And, when you buy from local independent farmers you help keep them in business, which is good for your economy.

Eight Health Benefits of Honey
As a healing remedy, raw honey can address multiple issues. There are far more benefits of honey than I will include here. Scientific research is ongoing surrounding the benefits of this remarkable substance. I’ve included some interesting benefits that you may not know about.

Taking organic raw honey is a healthy way to get an energy boost. Its carbohydrates supply us with energy and strength. It can boost your endurance and reduce muscle fatigue.
Honey is a great aid in relieving morning sickness, reportedly even more effective than traditional soda crackers. It’s also good for sore throats including laryngitis and pharyngitis.
Honey and cinnamon can help in many areas including relief from bladder infections, arthritis, upset stomach and bad breath. It’s even supposed to be able to slow down hair loss.
Raw honey can be used as a medication for men with problems of impotence and women with problems related to infertility.

Honey and lemon goes to work in the body shifting the extra fat stores, thus making it usable energy for regular body functions. And, honey is cholesterol-free. It reportedly can even help to keep cholesterol levels in check
Raw honey has a viscous texture due to its low water content. It also establishes a poor environment for bad bacteria to grow, and is a good natural preservative.

Raw honey is a remarkable natural substance that is receiving a lot of well deserved attention. Remember that it’s best to use locally grown raw honey, when possible. Seek out local markets for organic goods to get the freshest products. Support your local independent farmers; helping them to stay in business is good for them and for your economy.

Precautions
Honey contains a natural presence of botulinum endospores, therefore, children under one year old should not be given honey. Before the age of twelve months, a child’s intestinal track is not mature enough to inhibit the growth of Clostridium botulinum, which is often found in honey. No honey, in any form, should be given to babies younger than one.
