Instead of going out and buying a thirty dollar Bottle to replace my Sigg I was inspired by my friend Ashley .... The idea is to recycle an old jar and top part of an old tube sock... Both items should be old but new is cool too. I used an old Bhakti Chai Tea Concentrate Jar and an new Kids Sock .... I purchased a new pack of kids sox from Target... It was the cute print that sold me ... Originally my plan was to recycle an old sock and my plain black was not so much.i search thrift stores for an old seventies style tube sock with basic two color stripe ... No luck on a used sock so i went to the kids section at Target.... any design would make a stylish sleeve. Great for hot drinks or cold with ice cubes. Plus a lid for travel. The styles are endless ..... I bet fishnet would be a nice sleeve. <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159435157935145857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380769930100809828.post-52594113951925240112012-03-20T22:32:00.001-06:002012-03-20T22:32:55.798-06:00Gluten Free MatzoGluten Free Matzo From Israel .... But what does it mean? How local is local? Local is shorthand for an idea that doesn't have a firm definition. Unlike organic standards, which entail specific legal definitions, inspection processes, and labels, local means different things to different people, depending on where they live, how long their growing season is, and what products they are looking for.

Practically speaking, local food production can be thought of in concentric circles that start with growing food at home. The next ring out might be food grown in our immediate community - then state, region, and country. For some parts of the year or for some products that thrive in the local climate, it may be possible to buy closer to home. At other times, or for less common products, an expanded reach may be required.

People who value local as their primary food criterion are sometimes referred to as locavores. Post New Wave Locavore!!! That's Right!

One easy way to start buying local is to choose one product to focus on. Vegetables are often a good place to start. Produce also offers a good introduction to eating seasonally—an excellent way to learn about local agriculture. Then, try seeking out sources for local meat or dairy. Whole Foods Market makes buying local fun and easy.I love the mom and pop shops but Whole Foods Market Certified Organic.... That's Huge!

While local is certainly a flexible term, the basic concept is simple: local foods are produced as close to home as possible. Buying local supports a more sustainable food system because true sustainability goes beyond the methods used in food production to include every step that brings food from farm to plate.

Farmers Markets & Whole Foods Markets are great places to start.
Of course I'm going to tell you to buy from Whole Foods Market ... its not just cos I work for WFM...I know first hand what WFM does for the Organic/Natural food community ..... Its no secret that buying local is the thing to do for your community...check your local Whole Foods Market and I'm sure you will find some amazing new local product that wouldn't have a chance if WFM didn't think Local too.... It's that easy... Buy Local !

- Posted with LOVE from my iPhone
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159435157935145857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380769930100809828.post-75037430406879325392012-02-02T06:35:00.001-07:002012-02-02T06:35:40.844-07:00No Room For RumorsNEW @ WFM Venice Organic Flax Seed Milk

Stop the insanity! I help with customer inquiries here at Whole Foods Market and we’ve been hearing some wild, off-base stories from folks around the country lately. For brevity’s sake, I’m going to list them here in hopes of dispelling these rumors.

Rumor No. 1: Whole Foods Market has been bought by Monsanto.

No! What crazy talk! We’ve never had any affiliation with that company. We are publicly traded; our majority shareholders are listed in documents filed with the SEC and, I promise, Monsanto is not on the list and never has been.

Rumor No. 2: Whole Foods Market made a secret deal with Monsanto to support the deregulation of GMO crops like alfalfa.

Again, no way! This ridiculous rumor started over a year ago in January 2011 because of the Organic Consumer Association’s (OCA) misleading article titled “Whole Foods Caves to Monsanto.” You see, Whole Foods Market and others in the organic food industry met with the US Secretary of Agriculture in support of farmers’ rights to grow Non-GMO crops. Because we did not take the exact hard-line stance that the OCA did, they accused us of “being in bed with Monsanto,” and the rumor developed from there. Whole Foods Market has no ties to Monsanto and did not have any interaction with the company concerning this or any other issue. For a good description of what really happened, here’s a solid Washington Post story. You can also read our blog response from last year.

Rumor No. 3: Whole Foods Market recently decided to start selling food with GMOs.

Wrong again! As long as GMO crops have been in this country, GMOs have been in the US food supply. The most effective action we can take now is to label the food that DOESN’T include GMOs. That’s why we’ve enrolled our 365 Everyday Value and 365 Organic product line in the Non-GMO Project Verification Program, and have encouraged our branded vendors to do the same – and many, many have. If you want to avoid GMOs, here’s what to look for in our stores:

Organic products, since USDA organic standards prohibit the use of GMO ingredients.
Our 365 Everyday Value and 365 Organic store brand food products are sourced to avoid GMO ingredients and many have been verified under the Non-GMO Project verification program. You can find a list of verified products on each of our store web pages.
Products labeled with the Non-GMO Project Verified label. For a shopping list of Non-GMO Project Verified products carried by your local store, check your store’s webpage or review brands and products on the Non-GMO project website.
Thanks for reading and now back to your regularly scheduled shopping.

I found this on WFM twitter page.... Enjoy!

- Posted with LOVE from my iPhone
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159435157935145857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380769930100809828.post-76589115880507404972012-01-12T16:04:00.001-07:002012-01-12T16:04:09.759-07:00Tuscan Trends?I'm not sure if it's a trend but in the year of research for my blog I've discovered lots of products. I don't know what your waiting for.

Besides the fact that I wanted to change a few fast-food habits, I had a few health issues that changed the direction of my life forever. Realizing that I knew nothing about the food I put in my body for the first 28 years of my life, At 34 I can proudly say I am deliciously conscious. I know more and I am still learning.

Consciousness for me was opening up my eyes to life. I realized that I have control of everything. The food was just part of it. Getting a grip on what I ate and how the food was created was the beginning of a huge snow ball in my life. I also think about the environment; my environment, the people that I have in my life, the way I entertain myself and how I reacted to everything. This journey is huge and I'm enjoying every second of it.

After two years, three names, and many directions, I finally found my place. Delicious Consciousness...my personal attempt to change the world. It's about making the educated decision to choose organic and natural foods that are free of artificial ingredients, haven't been tampered with genetically, and involve good stewardship for our earth's lands and oceans, no exceptions.

Specifically special diets; organic, vegetarian, vegan, sugar free, dairy free, gluten free, raw and all other special diets. I'm not a physician or an expert, I am a label reader. I research and learn about products daily. I am lucky enough to work for Whole Foods Market and have an opportunity on a daily basis to talk with hundreds of customers and random people in the public about food. I get hands on opinions and comments. It's great! I love local products, I have passion for amazing foods, and I try everything I write about.

I can help you learn where to get great food. I spend hours working with some of the most amazing foods in the world, and can't wait to share what I find. I will research and bring you info and keep up with food trends.
Join me,

Thanks for following.
My Blog Is Delicious
Delicious Consciousness
foodfastconscious.blogspot.com

Follow on twitter
@WilliamFederico
@SpecialShopper

Sent with LOVE from my Iphone.

- Posted with LOVE from my iPhone
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159435157935145857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380769930100809828.post-28832768219659390382011-10-03T08:47:00.001-06:002011-10-03T09:06:46.239-06:00Guayakí Yerba Mate On SaleOn Sale at WFM Venice 4 for $7 and if you get 12 you can get an extra 10% case discount .... The consumption of mate became widespread with the European colonization and became widespread in the Spanish colony of Paraguay in the late 16th century both among Spanish settlers and indigenous Guaraní, who consumed it before the Spanish arrival. Mate consumption spread in the 17th century to the River Plate and from there to Chile, Bolivia and Peru. This widespread consumption turned it into Paraguay's main commodity above other wares like tobacco, cotton, and beef. Aboriginal labour was used to harvest wild stands. In the mid 17th century Jesuits managed to domesticate the plant and establish plantations in their Indian reductions in the Paraguayan department of Misiones, sparking severe competition with the Paraguayan harvesters of wild strands. After their expulsion in the 1770s, the Jesuit missions - along with the yerba mate plantations - fell into ruins. The industry continued to be of prime importance for the Paraguayan economy after independence Brazil then became the largest producer of mate. In Brazilian and Argentine projects in late 19th and early 20th century the plant was domesticated once again, opening the way for plantation systems. When Brazilian entrepreneurs turned their attention into coffee in the 1930s, Argentina, which had long been the prime consumer, took over as the largest producer, resurrecting the economy of Misiones Province, where the Jesuits had once had most of their plantations. For years the status of largest producer shift between Brazil and Argentina. Now Mate is the new Stimulation and Guayakí is leading the Front. If you haven't yet you should try. Infused with ancient wisdom and powered by one of the world’s healthiest whole foods, Mamma Chia provides sustained energy to power your soul’s purpose.

Mamma Chia pairs the highest quality organic chia seeds with delicious organic fruit juices and is lightly sweetened with a touch of organic agave nectar. The pleasing appearance of the chia seeds suspended throughout the beverage adds a compelling quality full of heart and brain-healthy omega-3s, powerful antioxidants and dietary fibers, as well as complete protein, calcium and magnesium. Combined, these nutrients create a vital force that delivers the power to live the life you’ve always wanted.

What is the story behind chia?
Chia seeds, an ancient grain, were revered by both the Mayans and Aztecs for their amazing energy and natural healing powers – in fact, “chia” is the Mayan word for “strength.” In pre-Columbian times, chia seeds were a main component of both the Aztec and Mayan diets, and played a prominent role in religious ceremonies. One tablespoon of the seeds was considered capable of sustaining a warrior for 24 hours. Today, chia is the force behind the famous long distance runners, the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyon. The Tarahumara power their extraordinary stamina with chia, as described in the New York Times bestselling book, Born to Run by Christopher McDougall:

“In terms of nutritional content, a tablespoon of chia is like a smoothie made from salmon, spinach, and human growth hormone. As tiny as those seeds are, they’re superpacked with Omega-3s, protein, calcium, iron, zinc, fiber and antioxidants. If you had to pick just one desert-island food, you couldn’t do much better than chia, at least if you were interested in building muscle, lowering cholesterol, and reducing your risk of heart disease; after a few months on the chia diet, you could probably swim home.”

“Chia was once so treasured, the Aztecs used to deliver it to their king in homage. Aztec runners used to chomp chia seeds as they went into battle, and the Hopis fueled themselves on chia during their epic runs from Arizona to the Pacific Ocean.” – Born To Run

Chia seeds come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family that grows in North, Central and South America. Consumed as early as 3,000 B.C., chia seeds were eaten as a grain, mixed with water, ground into flour, mixed into medicines, and pressed for omega-3 oil.

These extraordinary seeds offer a complete nutritional profile of omega-3, balanced dietary fiber, complete protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Unlike flaxseed, they do not need to be ground in order to absorb the nutritional benefits. Chia really is one of the world’s healthiest whole foods!

I love chia and MommaChia makes it easy and good. You should try it at home . It's easy... Or Visit me at WFM Venice. For example, blueberries are often considered a superfood (or superfruit) because they contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fiber.
The term is not in common currency amongst dieticians and nutritional scientists, many of whom dispute the claims made that consuming particular foodstuffs can have a health benefit.There is no legal definition of the term and it has been alleged that this has led to it being over-used as a marketing tool.

I'm a huge fan of this. Collard greens

Though collards are associated with Southern cooking alongside pork, vegans should be scarfing up collard greens. “Collard greens are a meaningful source of calcium and fiber as well as containing other vitamins and minerals,” says Chef Rabney.

2. Kale

“Kale is also a good source of calcium and fiber. Many people still think of it as a garnish, although with several available varieties it’s starting to gain popularity, especially when made into chips,” explains Chef Rabney, who shares dozens of creative healthy recipes in her new book Delicious for Life: Your Everyday Guide to Making Quick & Healthy Meals.

3. Mustard greens

Mustard greens are another oft overlooked crucifer that has a strong spicy bite. “A small amount of it raw can make a great addition to a salad,” suggests Chef Rabney. If you’re looking for a more subtle flavor, enjoy mustard greens cooked. “As they cook, the spiciness mellows and is especially good when cooked with sautéed onions that are naturally sweet,” the healthy chef adds.

4. Jicama

Jicama, which is not part of the crucifer family, often gets passed by in the produce aisle because of its rather homely appearance. “Jicama is a root vegetable and a great source of fiber. It also provides vitamins and minerals including vitamin C and potassium,” Chef Rabney says. To eat jicama, remove the peel and bite into the white slightly sweet and crunchy flesh. “It’s very popular in Mexico and it is definitely enhanced by a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a pinch of sea salt and even a dash of chili powder,” she adds. Slice jicama and eat it as a low-carb, low-calorie alternative to chips.

5. Sea vegetables

Have you had your fill of seaweed lately? According to Chef Rabney, sea vegetables are loaded with nutrients, including iron, calcium, iodine, zinc, many vitamins, and fiber. “When we think about vegetables, we typically picture a garden but there is a whole other world of vegetables that provide great nutrition, texture and taste,” she explains. “Wakami and nori are probably the most familiar in America as some people eat nori with their sushi and wakami in miso soup in restaurants. Arame seaweed can easily be tossed into a stir fry or pot of grains, kombu can be used when cooking soups and beans and miso soup can be easily made at home using wakame and kombu. Buy a pre-made gamasio which is a blend of seaweed, sesame seeds and sea salt that can be sprinkled on rice or just about anything.”

Link to Full Story http://ow.ly/5Yj9N

- Posted with LOVE from my iPhone
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159435157935145857noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380769930100809828.post-64288247582321873692011-08-28T10:40:00.001-06:002011-08-28T10:40:07.024-06:00Scan Wha?Scan Codes on Everything ...
